FREMONT, CA: Technology has long improved people's lives and industries in a number of ways, but new technologies continue to astound and impress us. High-tech technologies have advanced at a breakneck rate in recent years, leaving businesses struggling to keep up. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is currently the subject of attention due to its enormous ability to disrupt various industries. According to one study, AI could be worth 3.9 trillion dollars globally by 2022. Customer experience skills, sales from existing and future goods and services, and cost savings will all be primary growth drivers. In the food service industry, AI has many potential applications. Here is how technology has benefited the industry so far.
Supply Chain
Through waste, smart logistics will greatly boost the food supply chain. One company, for example, has created an AI solution that uses records to identify consumer needs at each location accurately. After that, it automates the sourcing and inventory management procedures. With this mechanism in effect, the risks of goods expiring are reduced. Other supply chain technology will monitor goods from point A to point B, providing consumers with transparency. Tracking is often used in food delivery systems, but retailers can also use apps to inform consumers of where their food products are sourced.
Food Preparation
Robot chefs do exist, but not in the way they have been represented in science fiction films—at least not yet. Robot chefs are currently food processors and equipment that need very little supervision during the cooking process. One firm, for example, created an AI cook who can control the grill or the fryer. The AI can identify and track food products and change cooking times to produce the best results. Through a cloud-based monitoring system, it constantly learns how to do so. Furthermore, it is already in use at a few places.
As more and more creative AI applications are created, today is an exciting time for the foodservice industry. Therefore, it is fair to expect a significant and technical transformation of the sector's not-too-distant future.
